UNESCO chair-holder for Engineering Education
Professor of Geological Engineering, University of Tehran
& Associate Member, Academy of Sciences of Iran
Born in 1947 in Tehran, received his BSc from Tehran University in geology, MSc from the Canadian University of Waterloo in rock slope stability, and PhD from Wollongong University of Australia on jointing and fracturing of rock. He has few years of professional work experience in coal mines of Kerman Province and at southern oil fields of Iran. His research interests are: rock fractures, reservoir geomechanics, petroleum exploration, geotechnical exploration, geo-hazards and engineering education. He has published over 200 research papers in national and international journals and conferences proceedings, among them are over 30 papers on engineering education. He also published 25 books, each re-printed several times. His book received several national prizes, namely the Islamic Republic of Iran Book of the Year and best Academic Book Award of Iran. Presently, he is full professor of Geological Engineering at School of Mining Engineering, University of Tehran. He is the founder and director of the Geo-Engineering lab. He is also the UNESCO chair-holder for engineering education and associate member of the Academy of Science of Iran.
