Dr. Hossein Memarian is a professor of geotechnical engineering at the faculty of engineering at the University of Tehran and the Chair of the UNESCO Chair on Engineering Education and an affiliated member of the Academy of Sciences of the Islamic Republic of Iran. He has authored 26 academic books. His last seven books have been selected as Books of the Year, or selected and appreciated, from the Book of the Year of the Islamic Republic of Iran and Selected Academic Book organizations. His research has been published in more than 300 publication venues in peer-reviewed national and international journals and conference proceedings. His research focuses on: Civil and geological engineering: rock fracture, geotechnical exploration, oil geomechanics, natural hazards, and engineering education.
In the past decade, Dr. Memarian's research has focused mostly on the emerging field of "engineering education". The achievements of this research have been published in the form of 6 books and more than 40 articles related to engineering education. Among his innovative activities are the design and implementation of new Master of Engineering Education program, a first in Iranian engineering education community, the design of a new structure for accreditation country's engineering education programs, along with the establishment of the Iranian Institute for the accreditation of Engineering Education. Dr. Memarian is also a founding member and board member of the Iranian Society of Engineering Education, the Iranian Engineering Education Accreditation Institute, and several other professional associations.
