In a traditional lecture, the only active participant is the instructor. The instructor speaks, writes on the board, shows slides, or asks questions. If there is no response from the class, the instructor answers the question themselves. In this scenario, students are passive, observing and listening, and some take notes. However, they rarely think about the material being presented. For such students, frequent mental pauses occur. Studies show that this is not the natural way of learning, and information acquired passively, without engagement and feedback, does not stay in long-term memory. In this session, we will examine the relationship between the types of student activities in class and the level of learning.
