What is professional ethics? What do ethical guidelines say? What are the schools of ethics? How is ethical behavior developed? These are some of the questions that this session seeks to answer. Ethics can be defined as the distinction between good and bad, right and wrong, and following a value system's rules, guidelines, or instructions, such as reason, law, custom, or religion. In engineering, ethics refers to adhering to professional rules and standards of conduct. Anyone who benefits from the advantages of a profession must also adhere to its rules and guidelines. In other words, engineering ethics consists of the guiding principles that support the professional engineer, and their use leads to the advancement and well-being of society. Ethical issues may arise at any stage of an engineering activity. Encountering an ethical issue requires decision-making or judgment. Moral decisions are made before an action occurs, while judgment occurs after the action is completed.
