Abstract: Today, many professors complain about the students' lack of motivation to study and learn, and they often attribute the reason to influential factors from outside the classroom. What is motivation and how is a lack of motivation created? Motivation is a force that drives a person to act and move, gives them energy, and shapes their activity toward reaching the goal. Human needs are the motivation factor. Motivation is a key factor influencing students' learning and performance in class. Most of the professors focus on the content of the course and how to present it, without considering student motivation. The teacher's behavior can be motivating on the one hand, and on the other hand, it can show itself as a motivation-suppressing factor. Motivation can be internal or external to the student. The source of internal motivation is within the person and not the external environment. Here, a person acts based on an inner desire. The motivation to progress is one of the most important internal motivations. Intrinsic motivations often have a deeper effect on a person's life. On the other hand, external motivation is located in the environment around the person and as an external factor, it encourages the person to do something specific. Reward, encouragement, or fear of punishment and reprimand are examples of extrinsic motivation factors. One of the teacher's roles in the classroom is to help students move from lack of motivation to external motivation and from there to internal motivation. In this workshop, after explaining the internal and external types of motivation, the reasons for the lack of motivation of a significant part of the students are discussed and the role of the professor in stimulating or suppressing the students' motivation is determined.
