Abstract: To improve engineering education in Iran, current deficiencies should be recognized. An efficient method to define the state of engineering education in the country is comparing it with similar educations in developed countries, based on criteria set for a standard engineering education. Most important criteria are: state of students and faculty members, objectives and outcomes of the program, course material, and process used for improving program quality and finally facilities and supports available for the program. Review of engineering education in Iran based on these criteria shows that their technical material is relatively good. Engineering education programs of Iran are basically focused on knowledge acquisition. Insisting in this aspect of engineering education, these programs pay less attention to matters like developing skills and essential attitudes for professional fields. Modern engineering educations emphasize on learning outcomes of the graduates and an ideal program is not developed in short term. Institutions offer engineering program may prioritize deficiencies and in the first step, more important issues may be considered. In this workshop, practical suggestions for overcoming such deficiencies will be discussed.
