Teaching engineering design
- Objective: Getting to know the mechanism of design in undergraduate engineering programs.
- Outline: What is an engineering design and what are its procedures? How can design thinking and skills promote in students?

Abstract: Design is considered as the pinnacle of engineering activities. Engineers, by using their imagination and professional skills, have played an effective role in shaping our current world. In simple terms, engineering design can be defined as the process of developing practical plans to build or produce devices, machines, structures, processes, and systems to meet human needs. In a situation where engineering education has increased the emphasis on design, the need to improve the role of creative thinking and engineering design in the Iranian higher education is strongly needed. Achieving this goal can be done in different ways, including by assigning an independent engineering design course in the final years of the undergraduate program, or directing as many undergraduate engineering projects as possible toward team works with design content. Familiarity with the scope and definition of engineering design, engineering design process, engineering design methods, tools, and management are among the things that should be considered in a basic design course. Toexplain the place of design in undergraduate engineering courses in the world, the structure and syllabus of the introductory engineering design course, which mostly deals with conceptual design, will be discussed in this workshop along with its teaching mechanism.
