Principles of good practice

  • Objective: Learning the best practices of teaching in undergraduate courses and using them to improve the quality of education
  • Outline: Teaching best practices, self-assessment of faculty members
  • Presented by: Prof. Hossein Memarian

Abstract: What is successful teaching and how is it achieved? What should we do to have successful teaching? How can we be sure that undergraduate education has been successful? Until this date, various answers have been given to the above questions. In 1987, two researchers named Chickering and Gamson presented seven principles influencing a good undergraduate education. Numerous types of research that have been carried out over the past few decades have repeatedly confirmed the validity of these proposed principles. The seven principles apply to all types of undergraduate programs, including science, engineering, humanities, and arts. Considering these principles makes it easier to achieve the goals of education. Educators can measure their effectiveness by comparing their teaching methods with these principles. One of the effective measures in this field is self-assessment by faculty members.
