Abstract: What is the purpose of running a course? What must a student learn or do after passing a course? How much speaking, listening, reading, writing, observing and working is essential to achieve these goals? How much and what kind of educational materials should be considered? What are the expectations of students? How should be the order and sequence of materials to obtain the best results? Such questions are samples of what is in the mind of any teacher before starting a course. Preparations before formally starting a course may have critical role in successful teaching. Preparing a “course plan” would be an effective action in the case. A good course plan requires setting desirable objectives and learning outcomes for the course. “Objectives” define what we desire that student gain from the teaching. Meanwhile, “learning outcomes” define what the students acquired at the end of teaching. Considering the objectives, a lecturer may plan for the content of course materials and for his or her teaching method in a well-managed way. Learning objectives help students to focus on the important parts of the course. Learning objective is also a tool for preparing valid assessment of the learning outcomes.
