Assessment methods are processes used to estimate the extent to which students have achieved the learning outcomes of an educational program. These methods involve identifying, collecting, and analyzing the necessary data. On the other hand, assessment tools include various grading methods used to convert observations into data that allow for measuring the students' performance level. Grades are limited in assessing program outcomes, as their diagnostic value is low. While grades may indicate performance, they do not reveal the strengths and weaknesses of what students know or can do. A suitable alternative is the use of rubrics. A rubric is a tool to grade students' performance in an assessment environment (e.g., oral presentations, written exams, observing performance, etc.). Rubrics provide a "common language" to assist both instructors and students in understanding the expected learning outcomes.
