The quality of higher education strongly depends on the professional competence of faculty members, making faculty development a vital component of educational improvement. Over the past decade, the UNESCO Chair in Engineering Education has designed and implemented a series of training workshops to enhance teaching and learning skills for both faculty members and teaching assistants. After the COVID-19 pandemic, these programs were redesigned as virtual workshops and video lectures, enabling broad accessibility across institutions.
The multi-day program covers topics such as setting learning objectives, learning styles, active learning strategies, effective undergraduate teaching, assessment methods, and quality assurance in education. Graduates of the program are expected to be able to formulate clear objectives, design student-centered courses, identify learning styles, apply active learning methods, accurately assess student performance, and participate in internal program evaluations. Successful participants receive a certificate of completion.
